The first weekend of October proved to be a busy one at the Club, with members enjoying both a social evening in the Clubhouse and the opening race of this year’s Winter Series.
Spring Quiz Night – 3rd October 2026
On 3rd October 2026, 28 members and guests gathered in the Clubhouse for the Spring Quiz Night and an enjoyable evening of food, fun and friendly competition.
The evening began with a meal prepared by Saj, who served Cottage Pie, with both meat and vegetarian options available. Once everyone had eaten and settled in, the quiz masters took to the floor at 20:00 hrs and began putting everyone’s knowledge to the test.
There were plenty of questions to challenge, entertain and occasionally completely baffle those taking part, with a welcome break halfway through the evening for coffee and the raffle.
Thanks to the generosity of those attending, the raffle raised an excellent £140 for the Club.
A big thank you must go to everyone who helped make the evening possible, including those who set up the Clubhouse beforehand, Saj for preparing the food, the washer-uppers who dealt with the aftermath, and everyone who stayed behind to tidy everything away.
Their efforts were especially appreciated as the Clubhouse had to be left ready for the first race of the Winter Series the following day.
Winter Series – Race 1, 4th October 2026
The following day, 4th October 2026, saw the first race of the Club’s Winter Series, marking the start of a six-race series to be held every fortnight throughout the winter.
The first challenge facing the competitors was simply finding enough wind to sail in. The race started at 12:00 hrs, but even an hour later there was still very little breeze and progress was understandably slow.
It was not until the fleet reached Short Pole Reach that the wind finally began to fill in, allowing the yachts to get moving properly and bringing the race to life after a very quiet start.
Six yachts have entered this year’s Winter Series, which should make for some good competition over the coming months. Full results from the race, together with the overall series standings as they develop, can be found on the Club website.
A big thank you to Manyata for providing the photographs from the day.
