A busy few days for the members of NFYC began on Friday, 4th September 2026, with the FYH Annual Party Night at the Ferry Boat Inn. The evening was well attended by club members and provided a great opportunity for everyone to relax, catch up, and enjoy some time together away from the water.
The following morning saw the re-run of the Commodore’s Cup, which had originally been cancelled earlier in the year due to inclement weather.
Six yachts gathered on the start line for the 11:00 gun, with a WNW wind, blue skies and a very pleasant temperature of around 23°C making for excellent sailing conditions. One yacht opted to fly a spinnaker, while the remainder of the fleet chose to race under white sails.
The spinnaker boat initially opened up a sizeable lead, but as the leading yacht rounded Buoy 15, the rest of the fleet began to close the gap. What followed was a long slog back towards the finish line, with plenty of opportunity for the chasing boats to make up ground and keep the racing interesting right to the end.

Once the racing was over, attention turned from sails to sausages as the committee laid on a DIY barbecue at the clubhouse. Members spent the afternoon chatting about sailing, racing and, inevitably, just about everything else connected with boats.
Chef Dan and Chef Garry took charge of the cooking, while many other members pitched in to help with setting up, serving and clearing away. A special thank you must also go to the Rear Commodore, who brought the whole event together and helped make it such an enjoyable end to a busy couple of days for the club.
